The Vitacress Conservation Trust

by Julia Hall-Jones

The Vitacress Conservation Trust is a charity focussed on environmental initiatives associated with salad and watercress crop production. Funding is now available to sponsor or part-sponsor a PhD project for a period of 3.5 years on any aspect of research that supports the aims of the Trust (http://www.vitacress-conservation.org). We would particularly welcome the opportunity to co-fund a PhD alongside another funding partner, but full sponsorship is also possible.

The sponsorship will cover up to 50% of the full costs of a PhD studentship including stipend at current RCUK rates, full registration fees for home/EU applicants and a contribution to research costs as appropriate, up to a maximum of £4K per annum.

Bids for funding should be limited to two A4 pages, font size 11, that cover Background, Aims and Objectives, Approach, Outcomes and Training Environment. A one page C.V. of the proposed supervisory team is also requested. Multi-disciplinary partnerships that enable research that leads to tangible management, conservation or other actions are particularly welcome. This call is open to those organisations with active DTPs or similar systems in place for the exemplary training of PhD students and is not open to individual PhD applicants.

Please submit your application as a pdf to Professor Gail Taylor, University of Southampton, g.taylor@soton.ac.uk, with cc: g.e.isaacs@soton.ac.uk before 5 pm on 30 June 2015.
