We’re busy at the BLSA office preparing for the NIAB Leafy Salad Variety Trials which are being held on Wednesday 8th July at G’s, Barway.
Following the success of the 2013 trials it was decided to hold another similar event this year. There will be a series of interactive workshops on Seed treatments, Biologicals and Soil moisture in the morning and then field demonstrations in the afternoon.
The trials are an opportunity for the seed houses to show case their varieties to the industry and this year we have over 70 plots entered. There will be guided plot tours of wholehead lettuce and endive plots and the tours will include growing profiles, disease resistance profiles and variety suitability for various end markets.
Alongside the plot tours there will also be a soil profile demonstration from Dr Rob Simmons of Cranfield University.
It promises to be an interesting and informative day. If you would like to attend please contact Julia Hall-Jones on 01507 602427.
