Record attendance at the UK Onion and Carrot Conference

Last week the 9th UK Onion and Carrot Conference took place at KingsGate Conference centre, Peterborough.

The Onion day saw over 300 delegates attend to hear presentations on current AHDB Horticulture projects, targeted inputs and precision farming, processing and the retail scene.

Carrot industry delegates received talks on carrot insulation, production and harvesting, the health attributes of carrots, irrigation and developments in the UK carrot market. There was a record number of attendees for the carrot day, over 250, which was quite an achievement having had the conference dinner the evening before!

There was some excitement at the dinner when all power was lost for nearly an hour during pre-dinner drinks! It was quite tense for a while whilst we contemplated how we were going to feed our 300 patiently waiting guests! Luckily power was restored in time for dinner to still go ahead and the evening was enjoyed by all. Thanks must go to our after dinner speaker, The High Sheriff of Rutland, Andrew Brown, who delivered a witty and entertaining speech; a welcome light-hearted way to end the evening.

For those who attended the conference the presentations are now available on the conference website and the password is in the conference handout.
