Brassica and British Leafy Salad Conference 2015
Growers to harvest expertise at UKs leading Brassica and British Leafy Salad Conference
Over 300 growers and industry specialists will be heading to Peterborough’s KingsGate Conference Centre on Wednesday 28th January for the joint Brassicas and Leafy Salads conference organised by the Brassica Growers and British Leafy Salads Associations.
“UK production of these crops is worth around £1.2bn to the UK economy. The interest generated by the conference is an indication of the strength and importance of these industries within the UK food sector” said Graham Clarkson Chair of the British Leafy Salads Association.
The UK offers a great opportunity for the production of these crops. We have the right climate, the right soils and the right growing conditions. This combined with cutting edge technologies, high levels of investment and the right skills enables us to meet the exacting consumer demands in terms of freshness and quality.
The conference will bring together growers and scientists from across the world to look at a broad range of issues including the latest research, development and technologies, retailing and the health benefits associated with eating more salads and veg. One of the highlights will be a presentation on innovation and branding from Rick Antle of Tanimura and Antle which farms over 30,000 acres throughout North America, Europe and Asia. The Company has been growing and shipping fresh vegetables for over three generations.
Chair of the Brassica Growers Association Matthew Rawson said: “The scale and size of the conference underlines the commitment and investment which UK growers have in these crops. The conference will see representatives from every step of the production to retailing process working together to build an even more successful future for this sector of the UK horticultural industry – we are looking forward to an outstanding conference”.
The conference is being run jointly by the Brassica Growers Association, The British Leafy Salads Association with sponsorship for the conference kindly provided by Syngenta and sponsorship for the conference dinner kindly provided by Rijk Zwann.
