Asparagus Growers’ Association Agronomy Day

by Tim Mudge

Planning is now underway for the forthcoming Asparagus Growers’ Association Agronomy Day to be held at Woodhouse Farm, Stourbridge Road, Hurcott, Kidderminster, Worcester, DY10 3PR courtesy of Sandfields Farm Ltd for Association and HDC members on Thursday 25th June 2015.

Our key note speaker is Dr Peter Falloon, Managing Director of Aspara Pacific Ltd, New Zealand, who will give two presentations, one on technical issues affecting the crop and also a world review of the asparagus market.

There will be a report on the 2015 growers asparagus study tour to Canada and the USA and a summary of the new look asparagus PR campaign. The current UK market for asparagus will be presented for growers to understand what the consumer is looking for.

In the afternoon delegates will be divided in to three groups to take part in field workshops, looking at the new plantings by Sandfields, understanding soil structures with Cranfield University and viewing of new machinery for specific use on the asparagus crop.

There will be a trade exhibition alongside the presentations, with ample time throughout the day for delegates to talk to related trade companies.

Teboza Asparagus have agreed to generously sponsor this event.

If you are interested in having a trade stand we would urge early reservation as spaces are limited. Please contact Julie Foyster at the Asparagus Growers Office by email: julie.foyster@britishgrowers.org or telephone 01507 353789 to request an application form and further information.
